Origins & Overview In 2006, Francis and Eleanor Coppola purchased what would eventually become known as Francis Ford Coppola Winery, marking their initial foray into Sonoma County winemaking. After an extensive two-year renovation that began in 2008, Francis reintroduced his eponymous winery in July 2010, which is one of the latest ventures from the five-time Academy Award-winning director, whose passion for wine, food and adventure is nowhere more evident than in this creative production - a winery resort located in the heart of Alexander Valley, California. Among the many attractions at the property, Francis Ford Coppola Winery features wine tasting bars, two restaurants, a full bar, a swimming pool with European-style cabinets, a movie gallery, a performing arts Pavilion and a park area with game tables and bocce courts. Francis puts it best, saying the winery is meant to be "a wine wonderland, a park of pleasure where people of all ages can enjoy all the best things in life - food, wine, music, dancing, games, swimming and performances of all types. A place to celebrate the love of life." Winery Design With the vision for a "wine wonderland" in place, the Coppolas enlisted the talents of longtime friend and Academy Award Winning production designer Dean Tavoularis to turn it into a reality. Francis met Dean on the set of The Godfather and has since collaborated on a variety of artistic projects, including more than a dozen films and the courtyard design of Inglenook, formerly Rubicon Estate, in the Napa Valley. Tavoularis' property design for the winery drew inspiration from Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen and other modern family-oriented parks, creating a place that showcases its distinctive personality in a way that the entire family can experience and enjoy together.

This month Spitfire will be featuring Ca' Momi Wines for our monthly wine dinner
Ca' Momi may be built on Napa Valley soil, but it's rooted in soulful Italian tradition. Founders Valentina Guolo-Migotto, Dario De Conti and Stefano Migotto started the winery together in 2006 to bring that passion and tradition to the Napa Valley. "In Italy, wine is on every dinner table, 365 days a year," says Dario. "We're never afraid to open the right or wrong bottle. It is all about enjoying wine in the company of good friends and a great meal." Embracing that culture of community and sharing, Ca' Momi has created 12 (and counting) big-hearted, full-bodied Napa Valley wines with a total lack of pretension. From the award-winning Rosso di Napa to the lightly sparkling Ca' Secco, Ca' Momi wines strive simply to bring joy to the table. Winemakers Dario De Conti and Stefano Migotto have 50 years of combined experience and connections to some of Napa Valley's best fruit, including Ca' Momi's own Carneros vineyard properties. By sourcing top quality grapes and heartcrafting each wine with soulful intention, Ca' Momi honors centuries of Italian winemaking tradition.
Ca' Momi brings Italian authenticity and passion to the Napa Valley.
We call what we do heartcrafted, because that's how we work: with passion, soul and integrity.
We aim to demystify wine, making it approachable, understandable, and unintimidating.
We heartcraft all of our wines with soulful intention and an unwavering commitment to quality.
We savor food and wine as everyday celebrations of life - without pretension and on any occasion.
We dream big and work to build a heart-centered community where everyone has a sense of purpose, belonging, and boundless possibility. We don't compromise our values, or ourselves-we are obsessively authentic.
Ask any Italian the secret to good cooking and you'll get the same answer: quality ingredients. Winemaking is the same story... you have to start with great fruit to make great wine.
Crescendo Vineyard, Los Carneros
Our organically farmed estate vineyards in Napa Valley's Los Carneros sub-appellation have some of the oldest, most highly prized vines in the area. Our 10-1/2-acre old-vine Crescendo estate vineyard is still rocking Pinot Noir pioneer Kent Rasmussen's original plantings from the early 1970s.
Vintners all across California have sought out budwood from these "Rasmussen clone" vines, hoping to inject a bit of their magic into other vineyard sites.
Cercando Vineyard, Los Carneros
The breezy, almost coastal weather in Carneros gives us perfect growing conditions for all our cool-climate varietals. A mile north of Crescendo, our Cercando estate vineyard has nine acres of premium Chardonnay, Merlot, and Pinot Noir.
Wild Horse Valley
We also farm on our estate in Wild Horse Valley to the east, at 1,400 feet above sea level, where the maritime winds from San Pablo Bay can still bring their essential chill factor.
Vintage Wine Estates is a collection of family wineries based out of Santa Rosa, CA. Our wines come from vineyards as far west as the Sonoma Coast and across the Napa Valley. The Rodney Strong Story - SONOMA GROWN FOR OVER 50 YEARS
Our story begins over 55 years ago, when a celebrated American dancer named Rod Strong settled in Sonoma County to pursue a second lifelong creative passion: winemaking. Rodney Strong Vineyards was the 13th winery bonded in the newly discovered Sonoma County wine industry. A trio of winemaking paths crossed when Rick Sayre joined the team as Winemaker in 1979, and again when the Klein Family, 4th generation California farmers, purchased the winery in 1989 and initiated a renewed commitment of modern artisan winemaking. Through the years, Rodney Strong Vineyards has earned the reputation for critically acclaimed Single Vineyard and Reserve wines, stand out Estate releases and best-in-class Sonoma County varietal wines.
Rodney Strong received the honor of being named Wine Enthusiast's American Winery of the Year in 2013. Introduced in 2000, each year the Wine Enthusiast honors those that have impacted the wine and spirits industry with their Wine Star Awards. With the designation of American Winery of the Year, the Wine Enthusiast has recognized Rodney Strong's commitment to quality, luxury and Sonoma County.
6-Course Wine Tasting & Food Pairing Dinner Featuring Michael David Winery! Saturday, May 21, 2016 @ 6:30PM
This month Spitfire will be featuring Michael David wines for out monthly wine dinner - scheduled for Saturday May 21st. start time 7pm.
Michael David Winery
"Michael" and "David" are Michael and David Phillips, brothers whose family has farmed fruits and vegetables in the Lodi region since the 1850s, cultivating wine grapes for nearly a century. Michael and David constitute the 5th generation of grape-growers in the Phillips family, with the 6th generation now joining the family business.
Today Michael David Winery has extended itself to the 6th generation of grape growers in the family, with Kevin Phillips and Melissa Phillips Stroud now joining the family business. The family continues to emphasize the importance of quality wines with unique and eye catching labels.
Farming with future generations in mind, Michael David Winery has adopted some of the most progressive sustainable farming practices in the state. All 750 acres of the family's vineyards are third party certified and the state's first per ton bonus was issued for contracted growers to follow in the family's foot steps. Starting with the 2011 vintage, 100% of the Lodi grown fruit crushed at Michael David winery was certified sustainable.
Summerland Winery produces quality, estate-grown wines derived from renowned vineyards across the Central Coast. Each American Viticultural Area (AVA) from which we source our wine grapes is a specially designated growing region distinguishable by its unique geographic, climatic and soil features. Our estate vineyard, Theresa-Noelle, is located in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. It's planted to 11 acres of four different Pinot Noir clones: 115, Pommard, 667, and 828 and has 6×3 spacing of 4 blocks.
Founded in 2002 by Nebil "Bilo" Zarif, the wines created are precipitously focused on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals, though our winemaker also likes to dabble in expressive Rhône and Bordeaux iterations. We're especially proud of our estate vineyard, Theresa-Noelle, in the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. Beyond the vineyards, Summerland Winery offers an inviting, relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy Summerland wines at their tasting room in the seaside village of Summerland, California.
Bilo Zarif Owner
Raised in Iskenderun, Turkey, Bilo's introduction to fine wine began at a young age. Zarif studied in Turkey, Lebanon, France, and England. His passion for fine and rare wines began in France where he was introduced to the regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Rhône Valley while studying in Paris. In 1978, Zarif graduated with a Bachelor's of Science and Bachelor's or Arts degree from the University of Denver in Colorado. He continued to study towards his Master's degree with a minor in Energy Management.
Although his heart was in the wine industry early on, in 1979 Zarif founded Rock Oil, an oil and gas company, with the mentorship of Marvin Davis, one of the largest independent Wildcatter's in the United States. He then sold Rock Oil in 1987 to Harken Oil & Gas and became the managing partner of Davco, an oil and commodities trading company out of New York. In 1990, he decided to operate a small cap take over and acquisition company under the name Zarif Companies. By 1992, he wanted to explore his dream of ranch living and purchased a ranch in Santa Barbara County. At 40, Zarif went to study Viticulture at UC Davis where he brought vine-growing knowledge into his profile.
In 1994, Zarif acquired 300 acres of land in the Cuyama Valley, a serene high elevation region of Santa Barbara County. Over the course of seven years he would expand Barnwood Vineyards to encompass more than 2,000 acres with 800 acres planted to vine.
It was during this time period that Zarif's passion for wine would lead him to acquire the renowned Maison Deutz Winery in San Luis Obispo County with a partner he had met in the energy industry. Mr. Zarif expanded this property from 100 acres to approximately 690 acres of cool climate planted vine that encompassed 1,800 acres of ranch land and raised the stature of their Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, bearing the name Laetitia Vineyard & Winery. Under his direction during his tenure at Laetitia and Barnwood vineyards, he achieved his projected goals by converting a 100,000 case sparkling winery to a still winery with distribution all over the United States and overseas.
His most notable contributions to the California wine industry include planting the highest elevation commercial vineyards in the state, which is by far the warmest and most conductive climate in Santa Barbara County for Rhone and Bordeaux varietals.
In 2001, Zarif sold his interests in Barnwood/ Laetitia to pursue a new and exciting venture: Summerland Winery. Drawing upon his years of experience in the region, Summerland is dedicated to offering the best wine experience on the Central Coast.
Over the years, Summerland has enjoyed a tremendous amount of growth from 3,000 case production to 60,000 case production. Zarif's most recent accomplishment has been planting and producing Summerland's first Estate wine in a very dense vineyard known as Theresa-Noelle in 2007.
Etienne Terlinden Winemaker
Etienne first met Bilo at Laetitia Winery, where he began his career as a "cellar rat" learning the nuances of winemaking deep in the production mine after attending both UCSB and UC Davis to obtain his BS in Viticulture.
As his experience grew, he went on to work with Gainey Vineyard in Santa Ynez, then onto a winemaking position at Central Coast Wine Services in Santa Maria, California - Here, Etienne worked closely with more than 40 boutique winemakers. Etienne describes his experience during those four years of working alongside some of the regions most respected winemakers of the Central Coast as working a dozen harvests for a single winery.
The 2004 harvest marked Etienne's commitment to Summerland Winery as Winemaker. Etienne says, "Santa Barbara is an exciting place to work as the vineyards here have really come on track, providing the means to produce world class wines from a truly unique terroir."
Etienne resides in Santa Barbara with his wife, daughter Theresa-Noelle (for which our vineyard is named), and their twins. He enjoys surfing and sailing when he's not crafting Summerland's wines from vine to bottle. In addition to recreational outdoor sports in the beautiful South Central Coast, Etienne proudly serves one weekend every month in the Naval Reserves.
